Before You Go Abroad

Make an Appointment Before You Leave

Meet with a career counselor before you leave to discuss potential career paths or how to begin thinking about careers, if you’re not sure. Career counselors can help you:

  • explore your interests, values, and personality and how those factors affect your job or internship search
  • review a resume or cover letter
  • explore the possibility of graduate school
  • how you feel about living or working abroad
  • ways to get professional experience while you are overseas

Meet with one of our employment advisors if you want to learn more about an industry or job. In your meeting, you may discuss:

  • resources related to your industry
  • companies in your industry
  • where to find jobs or internships in your industry
  • application timelines
  • which employers will be coming to campus while you are abroad, in case you want to reach out to any of them in advance to request special consideration outside of their normal on-campus interview process

Meet with our pre-law advisor if you want to learn more about applying to law school. In your meeting, you may discuss:

  • your personal statement
  • whether to apply to law school
  • choosing the right law school for you
  • applying to the Georgetown University Law Center Early Assurance Program.

Schedule a career counseling appointment, pre-law advising appointment, or employment advising appointment by coming to the Career Education Center and speaking with our front desk staff. If you are an alumnus/a, graduate student or do not live near campus, please call our front desk at (202) 687-3493 to discuss alternative arrangements for scheduling an appointment.
