Cawley Insider: Career Options To Explore Over Winter Break!

December 5, 2021 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources

Dear Hoyas,

While many Hoya will pursue careers in financial services and consulting upon graduation, there is one career that many, many Hoyas pursue to little fanfare – teaching! In fact, Teach for America (TFA) just happens to be one of Georgetown’s biggest employers, hiring between 15 and 20 students per year.

Additionally, Georgetown is one of Teach For America’s top contributing medium-size schools for the 2021 corps. This year’s corps includes top alumni from more than 546 colleges and universities, and Georgetown’s inclusion on the list means it contributed some of the most alumni, relative to similarly-sized institutions. This year’s is also one of the most diverse corps in our organization’s history, and includes individuals from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, and professional backgrounds. Nearly half of our incoming corps members identify as people of color; 55% come from low income backgrounds; and 1 in 3 are the first in their family to attend college.

So while the pressure on campus to enter certain industries can feel intense, please know there are many other career options out there and that we are here to help you discern what is right for you. We recommend taking some time over winter break to reflect on your skills, values, and interests and work with the Cawley Career Center upon your return to find the career path that is right for you.

But in the meantime, best of luck on wrapping up the semester. Practice self care and rest over the break. We look forward to seeing you back on campus in January!
