This Week: Case Interview Prep

 Dear Hoyas

Recruiting can be overwhelming. So many information sessions, so many deadlines…it’s practically a full-time job to find a full-time job. So here are some tips to help make the process a bit more manageable.

  • Treat recruiting like a class. Schedule in your information sessions, your networking, your case practice and your resume writing just like you would any class. A little bit every day. Don’t try to sit down on a Saturday and do 8 hours of recruiting – you’ll just end up overwhelmed. 1 – 1.5 hours per day is PLENTY.

  • So many events, so little time. Consulting information sessions are for you to learn more about the firm; attendance is not mandatory. Don’t feel like you have to go to more than one event per firm. And when it comes to choosing between firms, check out their website and see which firm(s) are of a higher priority for you, and then go to those events. If you can’t make it, you can always glean information about that firm from their website for cover letters and interviews.

  • Keep practicing your case interviews. Unlike finance recruiting, where networking is everything, case interviewing is really what makes or breaks candidates. Not all firms conduct case interviews, but a quick search on a firm’s website should reveal whether they use cases in their interviews, and if so, what kind. And then practice, practice, practice!

And speaking of case interview practice, we are hosing another Case Interview Practice Session for students to practice casing on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:00 p.m. in the Cawley Career Center. No pressure or judgment – come as you are with questions to ask!

Questions?

  • Feel free to make an appointment with Javi or Allie – our consulting Peer Career Advisors. Appointments can be make on Handshake: go to Career Center–> Appointments –> Schedule New –> Industry Advising –> Peer Advising – Consulting.

  • Finally, you are always welcome to come to a drop-in, Mondays-Fridays from 1pm – 3pm to have your resume or cover letter reviewed.

No matter what your question is, we are here for you. If you have a question not answered here, email us at careercenter@georgetown.edu (new window). And as always, remember to breathe.
