Government, Nonprofit & Education: End of March Edition
March 26, 2021 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources
From the Advisor:
Yay! It’s Break Time
Hey Hoyas! Before you turn off your computers for a much-needed and well-deserved break, I thought I’d send out a newsletter. I know. It’s crazy – this newsletter coming to your inboxes on a FRIDAY? And why’s that. Well, there are just so many opportunities, I had to let you know they are out there. This is a long newsletter, so please read the whole thing for jobs, internships, capitol Hill opportunities, and deadlines for some great fellowship opportunities.
Having a tough time getting noticed? Take some time over break to give your Handshake profile a little refresh. Now can also be a great time to refresh your Handshake profile (new window).
Also for my AAPI students. Please know that what has happened in Georgia a few weeks ago hasn’t gone unnoticed by me. I wanted to send along some organizations you can check out for more information and resources:
- National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum
- National Organization of Asians and Pacific Islanders Ending Sexual Violence
- Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund
- Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (based in D.C.)
- Anti-Asian Violence Resources
- Asian Americans Advancing Justice
And while I hope you get some good rest over break, I know this is a very stressful time of year. As finals combine with the pressure to find a job or something for the summer, it can be a bit… much. Add-in a global pandemic and you get the idea. Remember that there are a lot of ways to reach out to talk to someone. Georgetown University has supplemented professional counseling services with HoyaWell (https://timely.md/faq/hoyawell/), available to enrolled students. Part of their service includes a 24/7 service, TalkNow. Also consider reaching out to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine at 1-800-950-6264 or to the National Suicide Hotline at 800-273-8255.
In short, I hope you can take some time over break to really unplug and relax. Stay safe, Hoyas, and get some sleep!
