Tech & Analytics: Leadership Development Programs
September 16, 2020 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources
LETTER FROM THE ADVISOR:
You now have a few weeks of classes under your belt. No doubt, you are struggling to stay focused with endless lectures and perhaps even student club meetings on Zoom. My daughter, now a 2nd grader, started virtual school last week. After just two days, we caught her scouring the Internet for one of her favorite Star Wars characters, Darth Sidious, during class. Can I blame her? Not really. We all feel the struggle. This article offers helpful tips to staying focused during online classes. In the meantime, here are a few career-related resources for you this week.
First, do you know about leadership development programs? Some larger companies create these entry-level opportunities, which may also be termed rotational programs. The programs entail rotating through various departments in a company as well as ongoing mentorship and more in-depth training. These programs are competitive and tend to recruit in the fall. Here is a list of programs (new window) by industry including technology, defense, insurance, financial services, and government. For example, BD is recruiting at the upcoming Annual Career Fair for their financial analyst LD program (full-time and summer).
Second, for those of you curious about data science, this infographic shares the typical background and ways to build the skills necessary. According to DataCamp, 37% of data scientists are college graduates and 31% have a masters or professional degree.
Reminder: Take this super quick survey (2-5 minutes) to help us plan for a virtual fall and improve upon these newsletters.
All the best,
