Career Resources for Veterans

We at the Cawley Career Education Center are committed to helping our military and veteran student populations with their transition from service to academic life and, ultimately, to a new career. Our staff, along with the Georgetown University Veterans Office, is here to support you as you navigate the next steps of your career journey.

This page highlights career resources that may be useful to you if you have served or are currently serving in the military. There are additional resources for military family members and spouses.

Your Job Search

Below are links to a few job search databases that cater to veterans. These website are by no means the only places to find opportunities. 

  • Navigating USAJobs – How to use usajobs.gov, the U.S. Government’s job and internship database
  • Veterans Employment and Training Service – The Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) is committed to helping America’s veterans, separating service members, and their spouses by preparing them for meaningful careers, providing employment resources and expertise.
  • Handshake – Handshake is the career center’s online portal for everything career development. Like LinkedIn, it allows you to create a public profile. It will show you opportunities based on your interests. It is also the place for our calendar of career events happening on campus, such as our career fairs, workshops, networking events, and more. This is a great place to start your job search.

Career Fairs
The Cawley Career Education Center hosts two large career fairs and several niche fairs every year. Hundreds of employers attend our career fairs. Employers are willing to answer your questions about employment opportunities. Career fairs are a great way to browse multiple employers at one time and learn more about the companies in person.

Career Newsletters
The Cawley Career Education Center sends out a variety of email newsletters on a regular. Subscribe to the newsletters you are interested in to keep up with upcoming events, job and internship application tips, and job postings.

Federal Resumes
Federal resumes vary in significant ways from private sector resumes. Georgetown Military Network Powered by Hoya Gateway
Hoya Gateway launched the Georgetown Military Network (GMN) group to connect the Georgetown student and alumni military-connected community for mentoring, transition and career development opportunities. The GMN has just launched a “group” on the platform, which is an exclusive section of the system that allows you to find professionals, engage in conversations on the discussion board, and find important resources related to your interests. 

American Corporate Partners (ACP)
This program connects veterans to career coaches who offer career expertise and guidance to those transitioning into the civilian workforce.

Veterati
A platform co-founded by a Georgetown alumnus, Veterati is a mentorship program that connects veterans to mentors who will help them transition into the civilian workforce.

Transition Resources

FourBlock
FourBlock is a nonprofit with a career readiness program that focuses on networking, professional development, and exploration. The organization also works with employers to help veterans find rewarding careers.

Travis Manion Foundation
The Travis Manion Foundation uses character-driven programming to empower veterans and the families of the fallen to serve in their communities. It also provides transition workshops to help veterans thrive in their civilian lives.

DoD Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Defense Department online resources for resume writing and interviewing and information to assist with the military-to-civilian transition.

VA Career Toolkit
This is a tool for the employers and managers to help them better relate and integrate their veteran and reserve employee members. Veterans and their family members can also find employment resources.
