Health & Sciences: Build Relationships Before You Leave This Summer!

Letter from the advisor:

We are almost to August, and for many of you, this means wrapping up internships and volunteer activities. Take time these last few weeks to invite a new leader (or colleague) at your organization to a virtual coffee, and/or cement that already-established relationship by doing the same. I found the article below on “networking” to be extremely insightful. This excerpt is just one example; and hopefully, it will convince you to read the entire article.

“What will show more seasoned leaders your maturity and credibility is being vulnerable – openly talking about what you don’t know, asking for help in places you feel unsure, and acknowledging areas you need to improve. While that may feel risky, older leaders know that there’s only so much legitimately earned confidence someone early in their career will have.”

It’s okay to not have all the answers; try to live authentically in that discomfort and ask for support from someone who was once in your shoes. On another note, most of the jobs I feature below are internships for those of you looking for an additional gig to your coursework this fall. Also, don’t forget about this 10-hour week internship program with the government, Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS). Applications are due on July 31! There are a lot of resume-building projects focused on research, social media, and writing, as it relates to public health, veterans, and more.

I will be out on vacation for two weeks and back on Monday, August 16. I hope you all take some time to unwind too, as no doubt, the hectic fall semester will be here quickly. Enjoy the rest of your summer break!

All the best,
