Our Services
At Cawley, we have three core teams: career exploration, employer relations, and industry advising. Each team offers crucial support for our students in discovering purposeful work.
Our career exploration team offers career counseling and career courses which provide a space where students, no matter where they are in their career development process, can begin to answer key questions such as “Who am I?” and “What’s out there?” in addition to practicing how to develop and articulate an authentic career narrative.
Our employer relations and industry advising teams cultivate partnerships with new and existing employers of all sizes, from small nonprofits or boutique consulting firms to multinational corporations, and across industries to offer opportunities that align the employer’s needs with the abilities, needs, and skills of our students.
Our industry advising team also organizes employer events, hosts alumni panels, and offers students the opportunity to meet with an industry specialist to explore internship and job opportunities in a variety of fields including: health and sciences, law, government, non-profit, business, education, technology, and creative areas such as marketing, journalism, media and entertainment. Our advisors can work with you to identify opportunities and employers for whom U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may not be a requirement.
Ways Students Can Meet with Us
Drop-In Appointments
Students can come to a 15-minute drop-in to have their documents reviewed, to begin planning for an internship or job search, or to discuss Cawley resources. Drop-ins take place Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in-person in the Cawley Career Education Center (located near the bookstore in the Leavey building).
Career Exploration & Intro-to-Cawley Seminars
Students can build their career story and strategy in community with peers. Students will receive emails from us as well as information about events in Handshake mid-fall and in early spring with dates and RSVP details.
All students can sign up in Handshake for appointments in the following areas (first-years gain access to these appointments in October):
Industry Advising Appointments

- arts, entertainment and journalism
- business, finance and consulting
- government, nonprofit and education
- health, science and technology
- pre-law and legal

Students can also reach out to one of our peer industry ambassadors in Hoya Gateway starting in mid-September. Students should also keep an eye on employer events and career fairs in the Handshake event calendar during the school year.

Starting in mid-October, sign up in Handshake for an appointment.
Mock Interview Appointments
Students can sign up in Handshake for a 30-minute practice behavioral interview with someone on our staff. Students can also attend drop-ins to practice questions with a staff member or use Big Interview for on-demand practice and guidance. Our interviewing guide provides a helpful overview of the process.
