October 29, 2021 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources

Keep Calm and Let’s Catch Up

Happy rainy Friday all!

When I asked my marvelous student worker – the one who designs and edits this very newsletter – what I should address in this week’s “From the Advisor,” he said “Well, it’s the time of year when everyone starts to get tired and loses some motivation. Maybe a friendly reminder to keep pushing because we’re nearly there!”

Fair enough.

I will keep things light and share some events in the arts, media and communication space you might have missed and highlight a few upcoming activities and events.

So grab a warm mug of something and let’s catch up!

1.  Alumni Chats have gone very well, and there are a number to watch when you’re feeling up for it.  Why watch? You’ll learn all about skills you need to get into the industry plus timelines, deadlines, tips and tricks!

Cady Stanton : College | Women’s & Gender Studies & Journalism
Julian De La Paz : SFS | CULP | Creative Executive | Spotify
Jocelyn Kojzar : MSB | Marketing & OPIM/OPAN | Marketing Intelligence Manager | Wunderman Thompson
Claytia Gonsalves : SFS | CULP | Writer | Disney TV Animation
Caroline Seabolt : College | American Studies Junior Specialist, American Art | Christie’s

2. Want to learn more about entertainment & media in LA/NYC? Are you a graduate student or a senior? Last chance to register for the GEMA Externship program.  The application deadline is November 5th.  For more information and to apply, go HERE .

3.  Introduction to arts, media and communication careers from first-year to recruitment. I’m going to lead a very casual “101” workshop this coming Wednesday. First-years and sophomores, this is for you! (Juniors and seniors, you are welcome to attend as well.) Register HERE .

4. Virtual Road Trips to the Real World. So many GREAT employers here: The Phillips Collection, WarnerMedia, Washington Performing Arts, Google. Register HERE .
I could go on, but I’m going to lean hard into the keep calm and cozy mug atmosphere I’ve tried to create.  And on that note, for a little Halloween fun, join the Spooked  crew and the always engaging Glynn Washington for a special internship edition, Fright at the Museum .

Take care, Jacki
