April 13, 2022 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources
A few students have walked into my office panicking because they have put out numerous applications into the resume black hole and wondered if it got sucked into the cosmos. While some of those applications may never get a response – because unfortunately, that does happen – it may also be that the hiring process takes longer than you anticipate. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, it took employers an average of 37.5 days from when a position was posted to start the interviewing process and 23.6 days from interview to notification of an offer.* Add that up and it means it could very well take 61.1 days to receive an offer after submitting your application. While it will likely feel like an eternity since your application submission, try to remember the HR reps and hiring managers are working through countless applications for many positions. It. Just. Takes. Time. Continue to apply (and network), take a deep breath, and calm your mind during this insanely stressful period of time. Here’s a list of 12 meditation apps to check out while you wait. The article below shares 25 more ideas to help keep you sane.
Speaking of applying, I am looking to hire a self-motivated, detail-oriented student who is interested in using their research, writing, and creative skills to develop newsletters for the health, science, and technology industries. This person will also support me with the various programs I coordinate, including alumni events and the VIEW micro-internship program, as time permits. Click here to apply. (I promise not to take 61.1 days to make my hiring decision 🙂
*This data is from 2018. Because the timeframe has changed little from the years prior to 2018 according to this NACE article, it is likely these numbers are similar to date.
All the best,

25 Things To Do While Waiting To Hear Back From a Job Interview
Source: Resume-Now
While wondering when you’ll hear back from an employer after an interview, time seems to come to a standstill … or maybe even crawl backwards! This author shares 25 things you can do while waiting to help you keep sane – and possibly position you even better as a result. Suggestions include ideas that merely make the time go by more quickly (e.g., taking up a hobby or volunteering), ideas to help your job search (e.g., spiffing up your LinkedIn profile or snooping around online for more companies that may interest you), and ideas to help with this particular job (e.g., learn more about one skill required for the job or look for people in the company).
