STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Sarina Tajuddin | SOH ’23 | Global Health
What activities did you participate in while attending GU that you found the most valuable. I was really grateful to have been involved with clubs like International Relations Club and Georgetown Global Consulting as they allowed me to take on leadership roles early on. I think one of the most valuable professional experiences I had was interning with a South African health tech company during COVID. As a student, I think startups and high growth companies provide a really unique learning environment because they allow you to get to know an industry really well and also step up and take initiative in ways that are harder to do at big firms.
Please share your most recent internship experience. I’m currently working at the Municipality of San Borja in Lima, Peru as a part of my Global Health practicum abroad. I’m currently helping conduct a study that compares national and local level instruments used to classify socioeconomic vulnerability in the district of San Borja. Most of my work involves research and data analysis in STATA. I also get to volunteer with activities in the Municipality, like nutrition workshops and senior programs.
How has the Georgetown alum network worked for you? Talking to alums on Hoya Gateway was really helpful when I was exploring careers in global health and business. It’s really eye opening to hear about people’s career paths and realize there is no one set trajectory you have to follow.
Thank you, Sarina, for sharing your internship experiences!
All the best,

Allied Health Travel Jobs
Source: Vivian Health
Allied health travel jobs function a lot like travel nursing, where healthcare professionals across a variety of fields fill short-term positions to fill areas of need in various healthcare facilities and labs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), between 2020 and 2030, the projected growth in several top allied health professions is exceptionally high, including in order of deman: occupational therapist assistants, physical therapist assistants, physician assistant, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, physical therapists, diagnostic medical sonographers, medical assistants, and occupational therapists. And guess what?! You can travel in some these roles. Read this article by Vivian Health to learn what allied careers have travel roles available. A few examples include pharmacists, medical technicians, and x-ray technicians.
