Health & Science – Upcoming Events, Opportunities, and Resources

FROM THE ADVISOR:

Hello Hoyas!

It’s a busy time with never-ending midterms. Hang in there! Rest assured, you are not too late to find a summer experience or full-time position. I shared some sites in a previous letter and recently came upon Wayup, an internship and entry-level job search site for college students. Now, you are armed with all these job search sites, but keep in mind there are other strategies to finding a summer experience or full-time job than merely applying to postings online. Come to drop-ins or make an appointment with me to discuss other search strategies.

Be sure to read the article at the bottom of this newsletter, as I hope the information will increase your confidence as you apply for positions.

All the best,
Jodi Schneiderman | js4612@georgetown.edu

Article of the week

When in Doubt, Apply

Source: Handshake

Often, when I meet with students, there is an assumption one needs to meet 90-100% of the qualifications in a job ad to apply, but employers often exaggerate their job requirements and have and will absolutely hire someone will less experience.  Read this article to learn more about when to apply and how to upsell your soft skills and assess your skill gaps to fill them.  While you don’t want to waste your time applying to jobs you are definitely not qualified, try to remember that if you don’t apply, you have 0% chance of getting that job.
