FROM THE ADVISOR:
Hello Hoyas!
It’s officially summer break! I have big hopes that you are relaxing in some way (or all the way). Here are a few fun facts and updates for you.
I love hiring stats by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Did you know that 57.6% of interns are converted to full-time hires? Internships offer valuable opportunities to acquire skills, gain industry knowledge, and secure a post-graduation job. Interestingly, the significance of GPA in the screening process has diminished over time. In 2019, 73% of employers considered GPA to screen applicants, but now only 37% do so. Although specific details are not provided by NACE, a GPA of 3.0 or higher is typically sought after. If your GPA meets or exceeds this threshold, it is advisable to include it on your resume.
Are you interested in a remote internship during the school year? Prepare yourself for the upcoming application period in July for the Virtual Student Federal Services Program. This program offers remote internships in the federal government, requiring a commitment of 10 hours/week throughout the academic year. There will be projects related to your health and sciences interests. If you are eager to get started, the first step is to build your federal resume on usajobs.gov.
Are you considering applying for internships or jobs in health and life sciences consulting?Maybe you’re undecided and want to explore this career path further. Take a look at this recorded session featuring alumni who share their careers in consulting and provide insights on how to differentiate yourself as a candidate. Be on the lookout for events on Handshake, as consulting firms often offer information sessions and workshops during the summer months, as highlighted below.
