June 10, 2021 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources

FROM THE ADVISOR:

We’re interested in your summer plans!  Here at Cawley, we’re always looking for ways to better understand the Georgetown student body and provide better career services and resources.  In this vein, we’re disseminating the Summer Plans 2021 Survey (new window).  It only takes about two minutes to complete and will help us greatly.  Thanks!

Also, are you considering public interest work following law school?  Are you worried about paying off your loans while earning a public interest attorney salary?  This can seem daunting, but there are many programs that can help make public service financially viable for fresh law school grads.  The big one is the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (new window) (PSLF (new window)).  If you keep your law school loans with the federal government, you’re monthly payments can be kept manageable (i.e., they will never exceed a certain percentage of your income).  Moreover, after ten years of making proper payments while working for a qualifying government or non-profit employer, your remaining loan balance will be cancelled.  For more information on PSLF, I recommend attending this upcoming webinar (new window) on the program from AccessLex Institute.

In addition to PSLF, many law schools (particularly higher-ranked schools with more money) offer their own financial support programs for those who undertake public service jobs.  Be sure to look for such resources online at schools you’re interested in or reach out to admissions offices for more information.

Enjoy summer everyone!
