Pre-Law Opportunities Newsletter

October 6, 2022 – Upcoming Events, Opportunities & Resources

FROM THE ADVISOR:

I want to highlight upcoming law school information sessions that will be taking place on campus and virtually.  NYUColumbia, and Yale will all be coming to campus over the next few weeks to speak with Georgetown students.  Since these events are in-person here at the Cawley Career Education Center, there are a limited number of seats for students to register for.  Accordingly, in consideration of the law school officials who are traveling here and your fellow Hoyas, please do not register for these events unless you are sure you will attend.  And if you register and subsequently become aware that you can’t or might not make it, please unregister so that another student can take your place and benefit from the session. Thanks!

On the virtual front, UVA and Georgetown are hosting upcoming virtual information sessions.  These do not have registration limits.

I encourage anyone interested in attending law school, whether soon or in the near- or long-term, to attend one of these sessions.  They will assuredly be very informative both regard to specific schools and what law school admissions look for in an application.  Check them out!

‘Typical Law School Applicant’ Is a Myth

(U.S. News)

“Lawyers tend to err on the side of caution, and the legal profession is notoriously resistant to change. Perhaps that’s one reason why many people have a strong mental image of a ‘typical lawyer’ – a pale older man with a briefcase and a suit who looks like he hatched out of a dinosaur egg…The persistence of such stereotypes leads many law school applicants to believe that that their personal, academic or professional background makes them an outlier.”
