LETTER FROM THE ADVISOR:

I hope you are enjoying your summer break!  Because I found the below “article of the week” so helpful when I included it in the last newsletter, here it is again.  Perhaps you are in a different mental space to absorb some of the tips, which range from finding a mentor to going on a bike ride to starting a blog – all worthwhile summer break endeavors!

Did you know about the Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) (new window) program? This virtual internship program has existed for years as a part of an ongoing effort by the State Department to harness technology and a commitment to global service among young people to facilitate new forms of diplomatic engagement. College students are partnered with the State Department, USAID, and 30 other domestic agencies to conduct digital diplomacy. The application is open the entire month of July.  You can choose three projects (new window) (out of 958 posted) to apply. Work begins in early September at 10 hours/week. There are a lot of neat projects that require coding, data analysis, research, design thinking, GIS, and more.  If you have questions about how to start a federal application, check out the resource guide on Handshake (new window) and watch our Federal 101 video series (new window)

Minus two weeks of vacation in August, I am here if you need any support.  Feel free to make a virtual appointment via Handshake.

All the best,
Jodi Schneiderman
