Technology and Analytics – Upcoming Events, Opportunities and Resources

Hello Hoyas!

It’s a busy time with never ending midterms. Hang in there! Rest assured, you are not too late to find a summer experience or full-time position. Yep, the technology  industry continues to lay off workers with the total reaching 118,000, but there are still non-tech and tech positions available in the tech industry. And of course, all industries need tech skills, if that’s a skill set you have. Here are some job sites to help with your search.

  • Wayup is a an internship and entry level job search site for college students
  • Don’t forget about the site, Simplify, which was featured in a prior newsletter. Simplify has also developed the following lists:  internships in NYCinternships in the SF Bay Area, and new-grad roles in NYC and new-grad roles in the Bay Area
  • Angel.co is now wellfound. This is my #1 site for finding startup opportunities.
  • Handshake. Have you heard of it?!  There are 407 internships and 722 jobs in the software and IT industry listed on Handshake right now. Again, these are both tech and non-tech roles in the tech industry.

Look into all these sites. At the same time, keep in mind  there are other strategies to finding a summer experience or full-time job than merely applying to postings online. Come to drop-ins or make an appointment with me to discuss other search strategies.

All the best,

Article of the Week

When in Doubt, Apply

Source: Handshake

Often, when I meet with students, there is an assumption one needs to meet 90-100% of the qualifications in a job ad to apply, but employers often exaggerate their job requirements and have and will absolutely hire someone will less experience.  Read this article to learn more about when to apply and how to upsell your soft skills and assess your skill gaps to fill them.  While you don’t want to waste your time applying to jobs you are definitely not qualified, try to remember that if you don’t apply, you have a 0% chance of getting that job.
